College Green Group Director of Professional Development, Peter Pickin, talks about his approach and why he thinks a focus on development should be maintained throughout one’s career

I have had the privilege of working with the Institute of Directors for nearly twenty years, and in that time I have been fortunate enough to work alongside C-Suite leaders of all industries, in the private, public and charitable sector. Many whom I have met, have been the driving force for change both within their own organisations and in society, and if you want to create a better future and succeed in your professional and personal life, you must first understand what those changes are, and turn them into opportunities and competitive advantage.

Some embrace change with a “wait and see” approach, while proactive leaders engage in strategic leadership and thinking, they pay attention to the emerging trends to gain further insights into the changes that may impact their company. The main theme that resonated amongst them, was the need for continuous improvement, not just for themselves, but for the betterment of their teams as well.

As Directors, life at the top can be a lonely place. The challenges faced can become complex, and there is a large degree of expectation of you, your knowledge, experience and skillset to overcome these obstacles. Professional Development offers that additional support and helps build that confidence that can be taken back to the boardroom.

College Green Group has been shaping political leaders for over 20 years, and now with the launch of our own Professional Development Academy, Thomas and I are excited to offer similar programmes, fusing that understanding of both the political and business community with a mutual focus being practical applicability.

All courses and tutors reinforce the need for continued personal and professional development, and will provide guidance and support to those looking to make an outstanding contribution to their board and business life. We are currently offering virtual courses both in a public and private setting, and we have executive coaches that can cater to specific requirements and deliver on a one-to-one basis. Our practical and interactive courses will equip you with the skillset to tackle new or existing challenges and gain an understanding of the complexities of leading an organisation.

Please contact me today if you have any questions, or to discuss your business development needs. If you need any further information about our courses, course outlines and prices can be viewed on the College Green Group Professional Development website.
